From Route 1, follow Exit 198 or Exit 211 east of Sussex onto Route 114 OR from the City of Moncton, follow Route 114 south. Alma is nestled along the Bay of Fundy and this beautiful village is the gateway village to Fundy National Park.
World renowned for the famous Bay of Fundy Lobster, Alma offers beautiful vistas of our Bay, kayaking adventures, shopping, varied accommodations, restaurants or visit the wharf to see the boats return with their catch of lobster.
Formerly named Salmon River by squatters, the village soon grew with the settlement of Irish immigrants and was renamed in 1857 for the historic Battle of Alma in the Crimean War (1854) and means "soul".  A close source for mighty timbers from the local forests gave the Alma shipyard its materials in the mid 1800's for the construction of over twenty schooners, barques and brigantines. The boom continued until 1889 and a depression left the shipyard silent.
Fundy National Park offers golf, swimming, hiking, family adventures, children's activities and much more!  Opened in 1952, each year the park welcomes visitors from around the globe. In addition to wilderness campgrounds and over 120 km of hiking trails within the Acadian Forest, there are housekeeping chalets, motel units, tennis courts and lawn bowling greens, as well as a nine-hole golf course, all within the park. Fundy Park Weather is online. The heated salt-water swimming pool overlooks the bay, but is shielded from the ocean breezes by a wall of glass. Click here for the Park Map.
From Alma travel east and you can exit a while off Route 114 along scenic Route 915 (more information) through Dennis Beach and Waterside to Cape Enrage, site of the oldest operating lighthouse in New Brunswick and more kayaking or rappelling adventures. Close your eyes and picture the mighty schooners and ships that once navigated up the Bay, using the lighthouse as their guide through the dark nights and foggy mists! Standing high on the cliffs of the Cape offers you a spectacular vista of the mighty Bay of Fundy as well as a magnificent view across the Bay to the province of Nova Scotia. Route 915 rejoins Route 114 further north at Riverside Albert.
Alma was the former home of Captain Molly Kool. She was the first licensed female Sea Captain in New Brunswick as well as North America. She was the second licensed female Sea Captain in the world!
